Procurement Specialist - Capital

Are you an experienced procurement professional with a passion for managing capital projects? We are looking for a Procurement Specialist - Capital to join our dynamic team. This role is integral in ensuring the sourcing and supply of materials, equipment, services, and contracts for capital projects are effectively managed across multiple locations.  As the Procurement Specialist - Capital, you will act as the primary point of accountability to the Procurement Manager – Capital. You will work closely with project engineering teams to align procurement strategies with project objectives, delivering competitive advantage, cost savings, and ensuring compliance with contract and quality standards.

Start Date: ASAP

12month contract with a possible extension

Location: South Perth
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the procurement activities for allocated capital projects, from scoping and evaluation through to timely implementation.
  • Ensure contracts are implemented effectively, monitor supplier performance, and address/escalate any issues related to progress or performance.
  • Lead the execution of Requests for Information, Requests for Proposal, and negotiate contracts to meet project schedules, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Resolve supplier performance issues, cost recovery for quality problems, rework, and other commercial/contractual issues at the lowest possible level according to the contract.
  • Develop and implement tactical plans that deliver procurement cost reductions, working capital improvements, and process optimisation to meet project needs.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to reduce procurement costs and improve supplier performance, including renegotiating contracts and optimising supplier selection.
  • Ensure compliance with company quality, safety, health, legal, and other applicable standards.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to project teams, ensuring that sourcing strategies align with broader regional strategies for packages and commodities.
 
About You:

To be successful in this role, you will bring a blend of strategic thinking, tactical execution, and strong supplier relationship management. You should be a skilled negotiator with a keen eye for cost reduction and performance improvement. The ideal candidate will have:
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in procurement and contract management for capital projects, ideally within the mining or heavy industry sectors.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute procurement strategies that meet project objectives and deliver tangible cost savings.
  • Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to manage complex supplier relationships and resolve commercial and contractual issues effectively.
  • A track record of leading and driving procurement process improvements and optimising supplier performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, contract law, and relevant industry standards.
  • A strong commitment to safety, compliance, and adherence to internal policies and standards.
