About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Assistant Accountant to join our finance team on a 12-month non ongoing contract. In this role, you’ll be responsible for managing the accounts payable function and supporting general accounting activities such as reconciliations and journal entries.

Location:  Melbourne 
Clearance: Ability to obtain clearance
Must be Australian Citizen

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage supplier invoices and ensure timely, accurate payments
  • Oversee three-way matching of invoices, purchase orders, and receipts
  • Code invoices accurately, including GST and cost allocations
  • Handle weekly and ad-hoc payment runs
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts (accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations)
  • Prepare monthly journals (prepayments, expense recognition, deferred revenue, etc.)
  • Raise ad-hoc customer invoices
  • Respond to vendor queries and manage the accounts payable inbox
  • Support or lead finance-related projects and process improvement initiatives
What We’re Looking For
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting (preferred)
Experience:
  • Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant role with a focus on accounts payable
  • Experience using accounting systems (Workday is an advantage)
Skills and Attributes:
  • Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Well-organised with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently when required
  • Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to support the team
