In addition, Chandler Macleod also delivered recruitment services to assist with AFP’s Directions intake for entry level Indigenous talent. Chandler Macleod’s volume and graduate recruitment team analysed AFP’s existing entry level recruitment processes through several different lenses and advised on how to align their processes with best practice recruitment.

Project planning focused on ensuring a streamlined candidate experience from application through assessment, security checks and offers. Amidst an extremely competitive graduate market, it was crucial to design an engaging, effective and efficient process to fill the various graduate and entry level talent bids within AFP.

Furthermore, it was mission critical to ensure the virtual assessment centre process ran smoothly and effectively identified future talent because the 2024 intake was a reintroduction of assessment centres into the AFP entry level recruitment process.

Solutions

Chandler Macleod’s graduate and volume recruitment team worked in partnership with the emerging talent team at AFP to share candidate care and consultation duties.

Candidate management was split across two applicant tracking systems.  Candidate applications and AFP’s in house-security/background checking was facilitated through SuccessFactors whilst Chandler Macleod’s HireRoad platform was used to efficiently communicate with and to schedule candidates for assessment centres.

The online assessments were split into two stages, a blended aptitude assessment followed by a one-way video interview. The assessment centres were conducted virtually in line with contemporary assessment centre practices. The assessment centre process included issuing various invitations, bookings, schedule management, proactive communication as well as assessor training and candidate care throughout. Chandler Macleod behavioural experts assessed alongside AFP’s assessment panelists to complete all assessment centres over one week.

Key Outcomes

The recruitment process involved:

  • Over 1400 applications received, all applicants completing a blended cognitive aptitude assessment
  • Over 700 candidates had their application form manually reviewed for eligibility as well as understanding their degree/discipline match to stream preferences
  • Over 620 candidates following first stage online assessment and manual application screen were invited to complete a one-way video interview
  • Over 144 candidates were invited to complete security checks and attend centre
  • Over 70 candidates were found suitable for a Merit Pool

The assessment centres yielded over 70 candidates found suitable to be placed in a merit pool. AFP’s emerging talent team is working with business areas to meet their bid target of recruits for 2024.
