Background

The Department of Health and Aged Care sought end-to-end recruitment management and executive search services for two SES Band 1 bulk processes and Affirmative Measures (Indigenous) rounds for their Strategic Policy and Compliance and Regulatory Streams. The Department had approximately 25 vacancies to fill across both streams and was also seeking to establish a merit pool. A swift recruitment process was required.

Candidate Profile Development:  Working closely with the Senior Executive Support unit and panel members, Chandler Macleod identified key competencies, essential experience, technical expertise, and personal attributes. This information was used to create an ideal candidate profile and job description.


Candidate Engagement and Briefing:  As the contact officer for all job descriptions, Chandler Macleod fielded multiple inquiries from interested candidates. They provided detailed briefings about the opportunities and offered pre-application advice where needed.


Application Management: Over 470 applications were received across both streams. Chandler Macleod efficiently managed this influx of interest, with many applicants applying for both streams.


Evaluation and Shortlisting: Chandler Macleod proposed and executed an evaluation methodology, creating a candidate matrix for initial shortlisting. They collaborated with the panel to arrive at the final shortlist.


Streamlined Assessment Process: To maximize the panel’s time, Chandler Macleod suggested a streamlined assessment process. This included one-way video screening interviews, presentation briefings, and behavioral interview components.


Interview Coordination: Chandler Macleod facilitated one-way video screening interviews, shortlisted applicants, and managed interview scheduling (both online and face-to-face) with the panel.


Quality Selection Reports: Two experienced public sector scribes from Chandler Macleod attended interviews and produced high-quality, detailed, and timely selection reports in line with APSC merit-based selection guidelines.


Reference Checks and Administration: Chandler Macleod handled tailored reference checks and managed e-Recruit administration throughout the recruitment process.


Feedback and Support: Detailed feedback and advice were provided to unsuccessful applicants.
